Appwapp: Diverse expertise at the service of the Canadian community
At Appwapp, we use our expertise to develop customized technology solutions. Some are for the community at large. Others are tailored to specific needs. In particular, those of Canada’s Indigenous communities or those in the healthcare sector.
We work with representatives from each of these sectors! Learn about our experience in First Nations health. We also provide an overview of our accomplishments, including our mandate for the Papal visit.
Our commitment to the health of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people
Canada’s Indigenous Peoples include First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. They represent a unique cultural diversity. With more than 1.8 million people identifying as Indigenous in the 2021 Census, this population is growing rapidly and is also one of the youngest in Canada. This demographic reality presents unique challenges and needs, particularly in the area of health. This is especially true in remote and isolated communities.
Our experience with Aboriginal communities
At Appwapp, we have had the opportunity to design and develop technology tools that address the unique health needs of Indigenous communities. This includes our partnership with the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS).
We developed a mobile app that serves as a communication bridge between Western clinicians and Indigenous peoples. It is available in three languages as well as Inuktitut Pigiarniq syllabics. This aspect makes it possible to overcome language and cultural barriers. Most importantly, it improves the quality of care.
We also created the Pirursiiniq Nunavimmi mobile app. This platform is designed for older (and therefore more experienced) people to share recipes and local knowledge. Younger generations can then learn about local agricultural practices, especially as they relate to the installation of greenhouses.
Finally, we helped develop the website for the Council of the Anishnabe Nation of Lac Simon.
Supporting the health sector
At Appwapp, we support researchers and clinicians working in the field of healthcare. In this way, we develop tools that benefit both scientists and the general population.
Here are some examples:
- i-MEL: application for speech therapists to analyze and evaluate their patients’ communication skills;
- COMPA(s): a stimulation application for people with communication disorders related to stroke or dementia;
- ICT-IP: a web application developed in collaboration with the Research Chair in Nursing and Innovative Practices, designed to assess the workload of nurses;
- Pleio Goodstart: platform to raise awareness of medication adherence;
- HealthSanteInfo: website for the dissemination of useful health information.
Our mandate for the papal visit: exemplary technology management
This is one of our most iconic achievements. This project required complex coordination across multiple time zones. Teams were based in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and the Vatican, among other locations. From the early stages of the project, we handled the majority of the digital elements.
We managed the evolving content through the various phases of the event. As well as the archives. The aim is to guarantee up-to-date information that can be accessed in real time. At the same time, we provided essential technical support to the team in charge. We helped them select technology suppliers that met the specific needs of the event.
Finally, we acted as a video broadcast consultant, contributing to the professional media coverage of the papal visit.
In short, we handled this international project brilliantly.
