Web accessibility
Every human being has the right to use the Internet and new technologies easily and smoothly. This is valid regardless of our physical and mental faculties. Web accessibility standards were established on the basis of this principle of inclusion. In many countries, any company using information technology must comply with these requirements.
Web Accessibility: The Web Is Within Everyone’s Reach
Web accessibility standards, including WCAG & ADA, are intended to help developers meet the requirements of inclusion when creating a website or other digital tool. The ultimate goal is that individuals with disabilities, i.e. the visually impaired, blind, hard of hearing or deaf, can navigate and use their digital devices independently and without difficulty.
What are the requirements of web accessibility?
We can summarize the requirements of web accessibility by the following 4 points.
- Perceptible
Everyone must be able to perceive all the contents of the site, namely texts, images, videos or even graphics. Alternatives adapted to each difficulty must therefore be proposed.
- Comprehensible
Everyone must be able to understand the content and operation of the platform. This may include user guides and make sure to create an intuitive site.
- Exploitable
Everyone should be able to navigate the site and enjoy all the features smoothly and without problems. For example, several input tools must be offered so that everyone can choose what suits them. Also, it is necessary to ensure that the content published is appropriate and is not likely to cause crises in visitors.
- Robust
The site must provide the same optimal experience for all users, even those who use assistive technologies, and must therefore be compatible with them.
3 levels of web accessibility
Web accessibility is classified into 3 levels:
- Level A: accessible to some users
- Level AA: accessible to most users
- Level AAA: accessible to all users
We help you with your projects!
At Appwapp, we create websites and apps that meet the universal requirements of web accessibility. Our experts have the necessary skills to design projects compliant with SGQRI 008 2.0, WCAG 2.0, ADA and Section 508 (USA), AODA, AODA, Loi C-81 and ATAG 2.0.
Among our greatest and most recent achievements in the field, we mention the two digital games on the Canadian economy for the Bank of Canada Museum. They meet WCAG Level AAA accessibility standards. The tests carried out on the various individuals with disabilities confirm this.
We also participated in the project for the Conseil Québécois du Théâtre and designed the website appropriation.cqt.ca which is WCAG. We have set up a reflection guide on the inclusion of the theatre industry through a dedicated platform and offered training on digital accessibility. This is our most recent achievement.
